An Increase In Face ID Components Are Reportedly Being Ordered

Last year Apple introduced Face ID to the iPhone X. They also ditched Touch ID in the process, and for those who still prefer Touch ID, it seems that there is some bad news because according to reports, there is now mounting evidence that Apple could ditch the feature for this year’s iPhones as well.

According to the report, it seems that one of Apple’s suppliers, Lumentum, is seeing an increase in an order components needed for Face ID. This would seem to suggest that either Apple is anticipating more phones being sold this year, or it is because there are more devices that need Face ID, thus the increase in component orders.

While the new iPhones have yet to be confirmed, images and videos of the alleged dummy units have shown that Apple will be adopting an edgeless display design for all of its iPhones this year, similar to the iPhone X last year. This also means that Apple needs to ditch Touch ID and will most likely replace it with Face ID for security purposes instead.

If that is true, it means that there will be three models that require Face ID this year instead of just one, which also makes sense that there would be an increase in components needed. We’re sure that there are some who are probably hoping that Touch ID will continue to remain a part of the iPhone, but for now it certainly doesn’t seem that way.
