The Nintendo Switch Is Dominating The Charts In Japan

The Nintendo Switch’s situation compared to its predecessor, the Wii U, is like night and day. Developers aren’t shunning it and we are even seeing developers returning to Nintendo’s platform after a 15 year absence. This is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that over in Japan, the Switch and its games are absolutely killing it on the charts.

According to the charts shared by 4Gamer (via Kotaku), from the 13-19th of August, Switch games dominated the charts, where the top 10 games that were sold were all for Nintendo’s platforms (including the 3DS), with the top-selling game being Minecraft for the Switch. This is followed by Splatoon 2, followed by the Switch version of Taiko no Tatsujin (a Western release will be coming later this year).

In fact taking a look at the top 20 games sold during that period in time, only three titles were for the PS4, while the rest either went to the Switch or the 3DS, but either way it does represent a victory for Nintendo. In terms of hardware sales, the Switch is no slouch either as it was reported that 54,647 units were sold during that week, representing 57.2% of gaming hardware sold.

At the steady rate of which Nintendo Switch games are being released, there is no doubt that Nintendo has found a winning formula, and with plenty of upcoming indies and also some heavy hitters on its way, we wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo can ride this momentum in 2019 and possibly beyond, silencing its critics and naysayers in the process.
