This is according to a patent dispute over a transistor technology owned by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), in which KAIST alleges that Apple has infringed upon it. While an official ruling has yet to be made, it is widely believed that it could be ruled in KAIST’s favor resulting in the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, and a bunch of iPad models getting banned in the country.
However as some have pointed out, the irony in this situation is that Apple’s savior could come from none other than Samsung, who a few years ago was in a bitter legal battle with Apple over patent infringements as well. This is because Samsung is disputing the validity of the patent as they are using the same tech in their chips as well.
Exactly how this will play out remains to be seen, but given how close we are to seeing Apple launch its new iPhones (which we are unsure if they will be affected as well), this is rather bad timing.
