Android 9 Pie is the latest iteration of Google’s mobile platform but it doesn’t even figure in the latest distribution figures for the platform. The firmware update has only been released for Google’s Pixel handsets and the Essential Phone so far. It will be a while before other manufacturers release it. Some have started their own beta programs for the firmware before they release it to the public. OnePlus is one of them.

Android 9 Pie is now available for all OnePlus 6 owners in open beta. They will have to install the beta version of the firmware if they can’t wait to get their handsets on Android 9 Pie. The company confirmed on its official forums that the beta program is open for all users.

The Android 9 Pie beta for OnePlus 6 delivers an improved user interface, the new gesture navigation interface from Google, and a variety of new features and improvements. OnePlus has also added support for the Game Mode 3.0 and a new Do Not Disturb mode.

The instructions on how to install the Android 9 Pie beta on OnePlus 6 are available on the company’s forums. Users should bear in mind that they will be installing beta software on their device which may or may not cause problems that are to be expected from an unfinished piece of software. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed as yet when it plans on releasing Android 9 Pie for OnePlus 6 to the public.
