It has been a long time since a proper new addition to the Samurai Shodown series arrived and fans will now be delighted to find out that there’s a new one on the horizon. It has been confirmed at the Sony PlayStation’s Tokyo Game Show that a new title called Samurai Spirits is being developed for the PlayStation 4.

A short teaser of Samurai Spirits has been released as well, providing us our first glimpse of what to expect from this new title. The title will be powered by the Unreal engine and provide a modern gameplay experience on the PlayStation 4.

Many of you would be aware that the series was particularly popular throughout the 90s alongside other 2D fighter games such as The King of Fighters and Street Fighter 2. The series didn’t keep up with the evolution in gaming hardware over the past few years but it’s good to see that it will be catching up now.

Not a lot of details have been confirmed about this title at this point in time. The teaser does suggest that the gameplay would still exist in a two-dimensional field so the experience wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary for fans. Expect more information about Samurai Spirits to arrive at some point in the coming year.
