Tesla Free Lifetime Supercharger Offer Is Ending

Tesla initially provided car owners with free and unlimited Supercharger access which was supposed to end early last year. However, the offer has been available in select circumstances since then, as customers who were buying a vehicle other than the regular Model 3 could get it if they used a referral code from an existing Tesla owner to place their order. This referral program is now being shut down so the free Supercharger offer will completely end now.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter that Tesla owners will no longer be able to grant free Supercharging for life to a friend who buys a car through their referral code.

From now on, those who use their referral code to place an order for the Performance variant of the Model S, Model X or Model 3 would receive $100 in credits to be used at Superchargers.

Whether or not this will be permanent remains to be seen. The door remains open for Tesla to introduce a similar referral program at some point down the road. The company might also offer a completely different program which could offer free Supercharging as well. It doesn’t appear to be in any mood to do that at this point in time, though.
