New Report ‘Confirms’ Upcoming iPad Pro Will Ditch Lightning For USB-C

For years Apple has refused to conform to industry standards for its iOS device connectors. The company has continued to use its proprietary connectors for iOS devices, but there have been rumors that suggests that the upcoming iPad Pro refresh could see Apple ditch Lightning for the USB-C industry standard.

That would be a huge step and change for Apple, and this rumor has recently gained traction and been “confirmed” by a report from Mac Otakara (via MacRumors). According to the report, apparently accessory makers at the Global Source Mobile Electronics Trade Fair have been “talking” and they all seem to hint that the iPad Pros could indeed feature USB-C instead of Lightning.

Now it’s impossible to say how accurate these talks are. Sometimes accessory makers tend to get ahead of themselves based on rumors so that they can push out accessories as quickly as possible. That being said, the initial rumors came from notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has been pretty accurate with his predictions in the past, so it stands to believe that he could be right again.

Either way we should have all the official details soon enough as Apple has confirmed that they’ll be hosting an event on the 30th of October where the new iPad Pros are expected to be announced.
