Apple Could Discount The iPhone XR In Japan

If the reports are true, apparently Apple’s iPhone sales aren’t doing as well as the company had hoped. Even the iPhone XR which was hailed by many analysts to be a potential hit hasn’t exactly been selling like hotcakes either (assuming the reports are accurate to begin with), so much so that Apple could be forced to do something they rarely do: slash prices.

A report from The Wall Street Journal has revealed that based on information provided to them by their sources, Apple is apparently preparing to discount the prices of the iPhone XR in Japan. It was not mentioned how much the discounted iPhone XRs will cost, but to give some context, the handset is priced starting at $750 for the base model which is about $200 cheaper than the iPhone Xs.

Like we said, it is quite rare for Apple to discount brand new products and if the report is true, then it is rather worrying. Also note that just because Apple discounts the iPhone XR in Japan, there is no guarantee that they will do the same for other markets, so don’t get your hopes up for a cheaper iPhone XR in the states just yet.

The report also quotes Japanese consumers who claim that while the iPhone XR is cheaper, it is still too high of a price to pay considering the “sacrifices” one is making in terms of camera, display, and other hardware.
