Samsung To Broadcast MWC Media Channel Over 5G Network

5G is going to be a major draw at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona next week. Samsung will be there to show off its network equipment as well. To that end, the company has announced that it will live broadcast the GSMA’s Mobile World Live TV media channel using its 5G network.

During the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, the official media channel of the convention is going to be aired live on big screens placed throughout the Fira Gran Via venue in addition to the lobbies and bedrooms of more than 280 hotels in the city. The Mobile World Live TV channel provides telecommunications content throughout MWC annually. This is the first time that a trial of 5G live broadcasting will be conducted for Mobile World Live TV.

The live stream is also going to be available globally. The broadcast will include interviews, features, and keynotes from renowned industry leaders. Samsung’s 5G solutions will be used throughout the broadcast which include 5G radio access units and a 5G router.

The content will be shot by a HDTV camera at the booth of Mobile World Live TV located in Gran Via’s Broadcast Village. Fiber-based backhaul was previously used for transmission from the booth to its production facility. The transmission will be over Samsung’s 5G network this year.
