Given what a monumental hit Avengers: Endgame proved to be, it was expected that this film would top James Cameron’s Avatar from 2009 as the biggest film of all-time. Avatar has held the top spot for a decade now and has finally been overtaken by Avengers: Endgame, a fitting achievement for the movie that cap’s Marvel’s 22 movie arc which started back in 2008.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced at Comic-Con that Endgame is set to overtake Avatar as the biggest film of all-time. There was an approximate $500,000 difference between Endgame and Avatar which was closed over the weekend. Feige acknowledged the fans at Comic-Con, saying that “Thanks to you, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all-time.”

Disney and Marvel Studios have been working hard to win this top spot that was held by 20th Century Fox, which incidentally happens to be a Disney property now. A slightly different version of Endgame was released in theaters late last month with the promise of a deleted scene, a tribute to Stan Lee, and an official post-credits scene.

Disney insiders and distributors were apparently apprehensive about the re-release taking Endgame over the line but apparently, it has been able to do what Disney and Marvel wanted.
