iPhone SE 2 Might Still Be Happening, Could Launch In 2020

The iPhone SE was released back in 2017. The handset is basically a phone reminiscent of the iPhone 5/5S in terms of design. We have been hearing reports that Apple could still be planning the launch of the iPhone SE’s successor, and now according to a report from Nikkei, that launch could take place in the spring of 2020.

Now, it does seem odd that Apple would launch such a device especially when you consider that its design and size does feel a bit “ancient” in this day and age, where we are seeing smartphones with displays over 6-inches and come with edge-to-edge screens. However, Nikkei claims that Apple is trying to position the iPhone SE 2 as a cheap iPhone, where they’re hoping to reclaim some market share in regions like China and India where Huawei, Samsung, and Xiaomi reign.

According to the rumors, the iPhone SE 2 will be similar to the iPhone 8 in terms of specs. This includes the use of an LCD, meaning that the phone would essentially be a device that features two-year old specs. We’re not sure how well such a device would do, but then again, we guess it will depend on how cheap Apple plans to price it, where it could be cheap enough for customers to overlook its specs.

In the meantime, Apple seems to be enjoying a fair amount of success with the iPhone XR, which while not cheap, is cheaper than the iPhone XS and XS Max for those who might not be too fussed about OLED screens or dual camera setups.
