While many might snub their noses at the iPhone SE, especially in the face of more impressive and newer models, the handset was actually quite a hit. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook state in the past how the phone did much better than what the company had projected. So much so that it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that a successor could be in the works.

According to a research note obtained by MacRumors, it cites Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis and his associates who claims that Apple might have an iPhone SE 2 in the works that might launch in 2020. While the current design is rather dated, the report claims that the second-gen iPhone SE could sport a brand new design.

For those unfamiliar, the iPhone SE is currently based on the design of the iPhone 5. We imagine that should it be updated, it could adopt the more curvy designs used in the iPhone 6 and beyond. That being said, take it with a grain of salt for now. This is because previously we have been hearing multiple rumors that an iPhone SE 2 was in the works, but it never materialized, so there’s no guarantee that it will next year.

However, we admit that we are more optimistic simply because due to the price of the new iPhones, the iPhone SE is more important than ever to Apple who might not want to lose customers due to its price. The iPhone XR is actually a perfect example of that, where it seems to be doing better than the iPhone XS and XS Max due to its more affordable price tag.
