Samsung Galaxy Fold Has Already Sold Out In South Korea

The other day, Samsung officially announced that their foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, will be relaunched and available for purchase in South Korea on the 6th of September. There is some skepticism surrounding the handset due to its asking price, but it turns out that there are a lot of eager early adopters.

According to a report from The Korea Herald, it seems that the Galaxy Fold is a hit in Korea where the first batch of phones were already sold out the moment they became available. There is no word on how many units were in this first batch, but the publication cites industry sources who estimates that there might be about 1,000 units available through the country’s three major carriers.

This does not take into account online sales or sales made through Samsung’s brick and mortar stores, meaning that the number of units sold could be much higher. Of course, 1,000 or so units isn’t a lot when you compare it to how many units the Galaxy S or Note series has sold, but for a first-of-its-kind device, it is impressive.

The Galaxy Fold is also priced at $1,980 which makes it about twice as expensive as a regular flagship. Of course, how it handles and whether or not the overall user experience is good remains to be seen, but for now, it looks like the phone is off to a good start.
