Blizzard Open To Overwatch Characters Being Added To Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

After an early leak in which an official Overwatch Nintendo Switch carrying case was spotted on Amazon, it was later confirmed that Overwatch would indeed be coming to the Switch. This makes it the second Blizzard game to arrive for Nintendo’s latest console which is also an indication of how well the Switch is doing.

In fact, it appears that Blizzard is actually pretty open to the idea of Overwatch characters being added to Nintendo’s brawler, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In an interview with IGN, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan revealed that he is perfectly fine with Nintendo choosing any Overwatch character they like if they want to add it to their game.

According to Kaplan, “To the Smash Brothers team, whatever character you want, we love them all. They’re all our babies, you can have any single one of them. We have 31 to choose from.” However, he does seem to be partial to Tracer. “Tracer’s our girl, Tracer’s our mascot. She’d be my first choice. There’s a lot of great runners up. I think a lot of people can immediately see Doomfist gameplay applying to Smash, but if it were up to me, I’d like to see Tracer.”

While the Super Smash Bros. franchise consists of a lot of Nintendo characters, we have seen characters from other companies added to the game, such as Final Fantasy, for example. Whether or not we’ll actually see Overwatch characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains to be seen, but one can always hope!
