Facebook Gets In On Cloud Gaming With Their Latest Acquisition

Cloud gaming could potentially be the way of the future. One of the bottlenecks of gaming is hardware, where gamers will walk away with different experiences depending on the hardware they have on hand. For example, a gamer with a high-end rig will be able to enjoy games at its fullest potential, while gamers with low-end hardware will have to make compromises.

This is a problem that cloud gaming will solve, at least in part, where due to the processing taking place remotely, the only bottleneck would essentially be internet speeds. That being said, this is why it doesn’t come as a complete surprise to learn that Facebook wants to get in on the ground floor, where the company has recently acquired a cloud gaming company by the name of Play Giga.

According to a post made on Play Giga’s website, “We are excited to announce that the PlayGiga team is moving on to something new. We are continuing our work in cloud gaming, now with a new mission. We want to thank all of our partners and customers for their support over the years. Just sit back and enjoy the magic of cloud gaming.”

At the moment, it is unclear how Facebook plans to leverage their latest acquisition, but like we said, it’s not a surprising move. Companies like Google and Microsoft have already entered the cloud gaming space, so it’s only a matter of time before more companies get on board with this idea.
