The iPhone Notch Won’t Be Going Away Anytime Soon

According to the rumors, it was suggested that come 2021, the iPhone 13 could see Apple ditch the notch for good. Unfortunately, that may no longer be the case. In a tweet by Ice Universe (who has proven to be pretty reliable in the past), Apple is still expected to continue using the notched design for its 2021 iPhones.

However, and this is assuming that the tweet is accurate, Apple could compromise by introducing a “shorter” notch. This means that instead of cutting too much into the phone’s display, the notch could actually be more shallow and slightly less intrusive. It will still be present, but the shallower nature of the design could make it come across as less obvious.

To be fair, there aren’t that many handset makers who have ditched the notch entirely for under-display cameras. To date, we only know that both ZTE and Xiaomi have achieved such a design, although we haven’t tried out either handset so we’re not sure how good their under-display cameras are.

There are several technical hurdles to overcome for an under-display camera to function well, so it is possible that Apple might not have found the solution just yet. Either way, iPhone users have been living with the design for the past three generations, so we guess they’ll just have to wait a bit longer.
