Sony Announces Plans To Start Making Their Own Drones

When it comes to drones, it’s safe to say that DJI is pretty much the default choice for the most part. The company has created drones with built-in cameras that allows users to capture interesting videos and photos from new heights and perspectives, but it looks like DJI is about to get some stiff competition from Sony.

Sony has announced a new drone project and brand that they are calling Airpeak. This will essentially be the company’s first and official foray into drones, and given Sony’s experience and reputation with cameras and imaging hardware, it will be interesting to see what they’ll be able to bring to the table that could top the likes of DJI.

That being said, we probably won’t be seeing an Airpeak drone launch anytime soon. This is because Sony has announced that the launch of the project will be in the spring of 2021, so we’ll have a bit of waiting to do before we see what Sony is up to. The company is also looking to solicit feedback from the drone community to help create its drones.

In any case, it will be interesting to see if Sony will be able to make a dent in the drone market which has largely been dominated by DJI. We’ve seen other camera companies such as GoPro attempt to launch their own drones, but admittedly it was not exactly a resounding success.
