With the success Sony’s The Last of Us has been having, it is obvious that the company would love to be able to push ahead with more titles. Right now, there are only two titles under its belt, but it seems that a third is already being worked on, although we suggest that you do not get too excited just yet.

During an episode of the Script Apart podcast, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann revealed that they might have already plotted out the story for a potential third title in the series. He was quoted as saying, “I don’t know how much I want to reveal… [co-writer Halley Gross] and I did write an outline for a story, that we’re not making – but I hope one day can see the light of day – that explores a little bit what happens after this game. We’ll see.”

As per his comments, it sounds like the developers already have a rough idea of where the story of a third title could go, but like we said, don’t get too excited as it sounds like just an idea for now. Whether or not it will become something more remains to be seen. According to Druckmann, one of the reasons they’re so hesitant about a third part is because of how big of a commitment it is when it comes to developing these types of games.

“These games take so much to make. [Part 2], I’ve been thinking about it for seven years, between when the last game came out and when this came out […] You want to make sure you’re jazzed by the idea that you have, [that] it feels like it’s challenging.” This doesn’t mean we won’t ever see a part three, but you should probably temper your expectations.
