2022 iPad Pro Might Be The First Apple Product To Use A 3nm Chipset

We have been hearing reports that one of Apple’s partners, TSMC, is working on even small chip fabrication processes. However, it seems that Apple will not be debuting the technology in the iPhone first. Instead, if a report from Nikkei is to be believed, Apple might actually debut a 3nm chipset in the 2022 iPad Pro.

Apple will most likely refresh the iPad Pro in 2022, and one of the key features of the refresh is apparently the use of a 3nm chipset. It also seems that the iPhone lineup might have to wait until 2023 because the report claims that due to yield rates and scheduling, the iPhone 14 will instead rely on the 4nm process, which is still an improvement over the current 5nm process used in the iPhone 12 and is also expected to be used in the iPhone 13 later this year.

We’re not sure why Apple is giving the iPad Pro priority over the iPhone. In the past, Apple used to bring the latest technology to its iPhones before the iPad, but now we’re starting to see that the iPads are getting it first, such as LiDAR, displays with faster refresh rates, and earlier this year, Apple even gave the iPad Pro the M1 chipset.

Either way, we reckon that for the most part most people probably couldn’t tell the difference between a 3nm and 4nm chipset during their day-to-day use, but for marketing and for those who love staying ahead of the curve, it might matter a bit.
