Netflix’s Games Will Be Available On The App Store Individually

Recently, you might have heard how Netflix’s games have finally arrived on mobile, but it seems that for now, it is Android only. The company has stated that the iOS version is coming soon, but it seems that we now know why there might have been a delay for iOS, and it could be because of Apple’s rules.

According to developer Steve Moser, he discovered some code in the app which he then shared with Bloomberg and was published in Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter. It seems that in order to work within Apple’s rules, Netflix plans on releasing their games through Apple’s App Store as individual titles.

Users will need to sign in using their Netflix account to verify that they have an active subscription, but that’s to be expected. For those unfamiliar, Apple has rules for game streaming services like Stadia or GeForce Now where the titles available for streaming need to be available in the App Store as individual titles where they can be reviewed by Apple.

It is a troublesome rule, one which other companies have found a workaround by streaming them through Safari, but it seems that Netflix plans to comply with it. The company doesn’t have that many titles to begin with, about five, so we reckon it shouldn’t be too troublesome. It is unclear when these games are expected to be available, so iOS Netflix subscribers who are curious will just have to wait and find out.
