apple watchPrior to Apple officially unveiled the Apple Watch last year, there were a lot of rumors surrounding the wearable and how it could come packed with a ton of health features that would undoubtedly set it apart from the various wearables on the market at the moment, but unfortunately for those hoping for those features, the Apple Watch was launched without some of those features.

So what gives? Were they only rumors or were these actual features that Apple had considered? As it turns out, The Wall Street Journal (via MacRumors) is reporting that these were features that Apple had originally intended for the device, but due to the inconsistency of these features, it was decided that these features were better off not included for now.

The report goes on to state that some of the features that was originally part of the device included a sensor similar to an electrocardiogram and also a feature in which the device could detect how much oxygen there is in the user’s blood, but like we said, inconsistency was one of the reasons that Apple decided to ultimately drop these features from the wearable.

For example the skin conductivity was said to have not performed well with users with hairy arms or dry skin, and also the results varied depending on how tight a person wore the device. There were also regulatory hurdles that Apple had to overcome if they planned on including health or behavioral advice based on the data collected by the watch.

We’re not sure if these features could make their way into future versions of the device, but for now they won’t. In the meantime the Apple Watch has been pegged for a release in April according to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook.
