Xmultiple Technologies is the company behind the SQ flash memory card, and apparently this new memory card features double the read/write speeds of standard flash memory cards including Memory Sticks, miniSD, and microSD cards. Touting a maximum data transfer rate of 60MB/s in theory, Xmultiple is proud to announce that the 2GB cards feature read and write speeds of 32MB/s and 22MB/s respectively, while the 1GB version fares worse in comparison at 24MB/s and 12MB/s respectively. Both sets of results are still pretty impressive, considering the competition have typical read and write speeds of 2MB/s to 3MB/s. The 4GB SQ card will retail for $80, and you’ll need the USB 2.0 interface adapter that comes with it before connecting to a computer. Looks like memory card reader manufacturers will have to update their hardware once again to accomodate the SQ assuming the new format takes off.
