Hitachi announces Blu-ray camcorder

Hitachi just dropped an announcement concerning the company’s first Blu-ray camcorder, which is also the first of its kind in the world. It will be released sometime before the year is over, and uses an 8cm Blu-ray recorder and an LSI chipset to do the dirty work of compressing video into 1080p H.264 HD. For those who still yearn for old school recording, fear not. The mini BD writer also handles DVD-RAM/R/RW. Pricing remains as much a mystery as its release date, although you had best shore up your finances before picking one up as we could be looking at the possibility of a $2,000 price tag (or thereabouts). Do you think recording your favorite memories in HD is worth it at the moment, or is regular DVD recording already more than good enough?
