Barbie Digital Nail Printer

Mattel is hoping to generate a new revenue stream by churning out a new line of products that fall under the “beautronics” category – and the Barbie Digital Nail Printer is the candidate up for the task. The Nail Printer was specially designed to transfer images from the computer onto your fingernails via thermal inkjet technology, using specially-formulated cosmetic grade ink. All you need to do is insert your finger into the machine and the digital camera inside will capture an image of your fingernails, sending it to the computer for processing. With the help of a pre-loaded Barbie software, you then choose from over a thousand image designs to see a live preview of the image that has been superimposed on your nail. There is also the option to upload your own pictures, so you could even end up with the faces of your family members on all 10 digits. It takes approximately 10 to 15 seconds to complete each nail, and the Barbie Digital Printer is slated for a Fall 2009 release at a yet undisclosed price. Do you think that this will be as successful as the Barbie MP3 player?
