DIY E-ink E-book Reader

Are you the type who prefer to do things on your own? Well, here’s a DIY project to build up an e-ink e-book reader that relies on a prototype kit from E Ink – it won’t be cheap though, as it will retail for almost nine times the Kindle’s price. According to Sri Peruvemba, vice-president of marketing for E Ink, “The primary advantage [of the kit] is you can take it apart and look at each individual piece, like a block diagram. You can do your own design and put together your own device or applications based on our technology. If you buy one of those units you won’t be won’t be able to reprogram it to your satisfaction. You can’t copy the electronics or change the chipset or use a different software.” Would you be willing to spend $3,000 for this? Not to mention the amount of time you’d spend tinkering with it…
