Verizon FiOS trial catches whiff of Gigabit mark

Verizon’s FiOS trial proved to be rather promising, where it nearly hit the 1 Gigabit download speed, with a subscriber touching a throughput of 925Mbps using currently deployed equipment. We await future news that will see it hit the Gigabit mark and beyond, but in the mean time, we don’t think anyone will complain of the speed it offers. This field test was conducted in conjunction with a business subscriber in Massachusetts, where speeds dropped to 800Mbps when downloading from a more remote regional server. Of course, when the network is flooded with subscribers, it will be a long time before anyone and everyone will be able to enjoy 1Gbps speeds.
