T-Mobile USA Launches Its First Solar Cell Tower

T-Mobile must be trying to get in on the green game too as the carrier has launched its first US solar-powered cell tower in Chalfont, Pennsylvania. The site sports 12 solar panels that are touted to be efficient enough to be self-sufficient and even feed power back to a local utility company when network demand isn’t strong. Reports indicate that a solar-powered cell site will run between 2 and 3 times the cost of a regular cell site, which could possibly be the reason why we aren’t seeing such sites popping up everywhere just yet. Still, it’s a step in the right direction, and hopefully will help T-Mobile reduce its carbon footprint too, which should be good for PR (and the environment).
