Eco: Aeolus Uses Wind Energy To Desalinate Water

Many people around the world lack access to safe drinking water and researchers are looking to find solutions such as desalination, though it’s an energy-intensive process that requires reverse osmosis of water. Now designers have come up with a system that uses renewable energy such as wind to make it possible. The Aeolus system uses wind energy to produce mechanical power to drive a pump to push water through a series of filters, including the reverse osmosis membrane, to produce clean water, which is then stored for use. The concept seems pretty sound and is something that is eco-friendly too. If it’s cost effective, perhaps we’ll see such installations appear in windy areas.
