The netbook market has suffered quite a blow when the Apple iPad joined the portable digital device revolution, but it isn’t quite dead just yet despite strong showings by the growing tablet niche. Reports have pointed to over 30 million shipments for this year, and there is mention of a release date for the upcoming Atom N570 processor – where we do know that it has been confirmed to be clocked at 1.66GHz compared to the current Atom N550 chip which is clocked at 1.5GHz. Lenovo, ASUS and Samsung are among some of the names which are tipped to release netbooks with said processor this coming March. Lenovo will do so with their IdeaPad S100 as pictured to the right, while Samsung’s candidate would be the NC110. The clock speed will not make that much of a difference, unless the video chipset is able to catch up with the rest of the machine, so hopefully those netbooks that run on the new Intel Atom N570 processors will also sport at least a Tegra 2 chipset from NVIDIA as well.
