Samsung announces USB 3.0 external hard disk drives

Samsung USB 3.0 external hard disk drives[CES 2011] As USB 3.0 gradually becomes the standard input port on our computers, we’ll start seeing more USB 3.0 devices on the market – after all, who would say no to faster transfer speeds especially when it comes to hard disk drives? USB 3.0 provides data transfer rates of up to 5 gigabits per second, allowing users to transfer a 25GB HD movie in just 4 minutes, compared with 13 minutes for previous USB 2.0 devices. Samsung is one of the forerunners to embrace the USB 3.0 interface and will bring high-speed portable hard disk drives to consumers this year. The Korean manufacturer will be introducing 3 new USB 3.0 external hard disk drives to the market- a basic portable external HDD, a premium version that comes with enhanced backup and security software, and a desktop version that can store up to 2TB of data. The drives will be sold in a variety of colors, and will be available through leading US retailers in April; prices will also be announced then. In the mean time you can catch the devices on display at Las Vegas this week.
