Formatting a hard drive is a quick way to erasing all content and cleaning a disk up before a sale, or a system installation. It’s not something people do everyday, so it’s OK to have forgotten the steps, or to be a little queezy about doing it. Here’s how to simply format a Windows disk, but let’s look at a few definitions first:
Wipe data from your hard drive completely, making it impossible to recover data from it.

Those building their own PC have to go through a sea of PC components that is often not easy to navigate, not because the specs are hard to read, but because it is virtually impossible to form an opinion on the build quality of PC accessories based on what’s available online. When I started shopping for a drive cage for a new PC I’m building I wanted to have a […]
Seagate has just announced the launch of a new 5mm HDD (hard disk drive) which represents an important height reduction (30%) from the previous 7mm and 9mm versions. Seagate built this to enable ultra-thin computers to reach a storage capacity of 500GB (today) to 650GB (by 2016) at a price point that SSDs (solid state drive) simply won’t allow in the same timeframe.
Seagate is no stranger to the portable hard drive market, having come up with some hits of theirs in the past. Remember the Seagate GoFlex Slim Drive, which was touted to be the slimmest portable external hard drive in the world when it was revealed a couple of years back? Well, Seagate is still in the game of delivering quality storage on the go for the masses, and their latest […]

Seagate is overhauling its legendary barracuda line of hard drives by using the same technology on every barracuda drives, notably a 7200 rpm of rotational speed, 6Gb/sec SATA and the same DicsWizard driver for 2TB drives. This effectively leads to a single family of products that will only scale in capacity: from 250GB to 3TB. With this streamlined line-up, Seagate also makes it easier for PC manufacturers to qualify its hard […]
Remember the days a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, where you relied on this thing called the VHS tape to watch your favorite home movies? Ah, that was also the heyday of the Sony Walkman – when it still relied on cassettes instead of CDs or even later, MP3 files, to dispense music wherever you went. Well, here is a blast from the past with […]

This new technology enables Hitachi to churn out even slimmer form factors – something that was not quite possible before, and with smaller hard drives, that means less material used to construct it, and this cost savings […]
Seagate has just announced a new external 500GB to 750GB GoFlex Turbo HDD drive that comes with USB 3.0 and a 7200rpm rotation speed. However, the more interesting part is that a one-time data recovery service from SafetyNet is included with the drive. I remember back in the day where a portable hard drive was a luxury item – you never really needed one, and if you did, it was probably meant to be brought over to your mate’s home as he/she had a DSL line to download all the movies and songs that you ever wanted (illegally, of course), only to bring it home for future enjoyment. After all, forbidden fruit always […]
