iOS 5 rumored to have deep voice command integration
While we’ve all be hearing about how much more cloud-oriented iOS 5 is speculated to be, there hasn’t been much talked about what these cloud services will be used for. Well according to some reports online, Apple will be making use of cloud technology to improve voice commands on their iOS devices. Apple acquired Siri in 2010, a company that specializes in voice recognition technology that happens on a distant server i.e. like how Google’s voice recognition works – commands are sent to a server through the internet and then back to the phone as a recognizable command, which forms the basis for these speculations. Such rumors corroborate with reports posted earlier this year about Apple adding voice navigation features in iOS 5 and as a response to consumers complaining about the virtual keyboard. AppleInsider has also reported that earlier this month, Apple put out job listings for “iOS Speech Operations Engineer” piling on to the speculations about a voice-command centric iOS 5. iOS 5 is expected to be shown off at this year’s WWDC in June, so it’ll be a couple of months before anything is confirmed.
