Magellan eXplorist 110 Handheld GPS

[CES 2012] Do you tend to get lost a whole lot of time? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you would definitely want to make do with a GPS navigation system – a dedicated one is always better than having to rely on your phone, considering the amount of juice it saps from your handset even after a short while. Cue music, and enter the Magellan eXplorist 110 GPS receiver. Features include a 2.2” QVGA transflective color screen which is easily readable under direct sunlight, and not only that, it was built to be tough and rugged, boasting waterproof capability according to IPX-7 standards.

Other hardware specifications include a highly sensitive SiRFstarIII GPS chipset that delivers up to 3 to 5 meter accuracy, while a pre-loaded World Edition Map will deliver a complete road network in North America and Western Europe, not to mention most of the major roads throughout the rest of the populated world. It will run off a couple of AA batteries for up to 18 hours, and has 500MB of internal memory to stash away waypoints, tracks, and other data. At $129.99 a pop, this is clearly more useful for backpackers and those with a penchant for adventure rather than road warriors, but it would still get the job done if you are a road warrior.
