Megaupload’s data could be deleted by the end of the week

We’re sure that most of you might have heard by now that popular filesharing website, Megaupload, has been shutdown, but what you may not have realized is that it would seem that the website will have all of its files deleted by the end of the week. Yes, when we say all, we do mean all, and that could include files that have been uploaded by users who may have been sharing their own files as opposed to copyrighted material.

The website has a reputation and has been known for being a source of upload/download of copyrighted material by its users. Now we know that not all users of Megaupload use it to share copyrighted material, but apparently a letter filed in court last Friday revealed that two ISPs are due to start deleting the data this week, which Megaupload’s lawyers are arguing will damage the case to prove that Megaupload is a legitimate organization, as opposed to being a “pirate”.

So it looks like if you have uploaded any personal files, like family photos, your documents, your own art work, etc onto Megaupload, and if this turns out to be true, we sincerely hope that your Megaupload account was not the main and sole source of your data storage!
