Normally, we would think that a web service that goes down is hacked, but it seems that Facebook’s latest outage in several countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa for a couple of hours today was not due to a hacking incident, but rather, Facebook cited “technical difficulties” instead. Among the affected countries include the UK, Ireland, Pakistan and South Korea, at least that is what we know after BBC tracked some Twitter posts. Facebook’s statement said, “Today we experienced technical difficulties causing the site to be unavailable for a number of users in Europe. The issue has been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Glad to know that those who were affected had to look for other ways to keep themselves entertained while they sit in front of the computer. Tell you what, the closure of a social network is not the end of the world, even if it happens in December this year. Instead, revel in the opportunity to head out there and start making real relationships with other humans – you know, face to face.
