An international research team managed to come up with what they deem to be the first flexible, organic transistor in the world. Just what kind of impact will that bit of news have on the world? Well, we are talking about making patient monitoring devices a whole lot easier to implant, in addition to integrating it with the human body. With time and further research, one can fully expect it to be adopted into wearable, patch-like health monitors – or perhaps, if one dares to dream, see it result in an implantable device just like the pace makers that we use currently.

This particular medical innovation will have potentially far-reaching implications, where the transistor is said to be easily manufactured, and it can also broaden the usage of the organic transistors as a medical device thanks to its flexibility as well as ability to cover large areas. Among the future applications that can be achieved by these biocompatible transistors include wearable electronics that read bio-information from outside the skin, or implantable electronics that directly extract health information from the body.
