An announcement by 2K Marin stating that its XCOM franchise will be coming this year that was made in 2011 seems to have been just half right. It seems that now, 2K has further delayed XCOM which was scheduled for a release sometime this year to an unconfirmed date that could be anytime between April 1 2013 and March 31 2014. After the first-person shooter game was announced as a re-imagining for the original 1994 series, many fans were looking forward to playing it.

The game which is apparently set as a prequel to its original has players fighting to stop an alien invasion back in the 60s. Reportedly, the elements of strategy will remain intact in the game as players issue squad commands through non-linear missions. Just to clarify any lingering confusion, the game in question here is not XCOM: Enemy Unknown which was announced to be released this October, earlier today. XCOM is the product of developer 2K Marin which previously worked on games like Bioshock 2. With all that said, when the game is finally released for the masses, it will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
