The Facebook App Center, Publicly Available

Facebook has just announced its App Center to the public in San Francisco, after doing so to developers on May 9th. It is a place where Facebook users can browse and find all kinds of apps that may cater to their interests. Prior to that apps could be searchable, or found randomly from friends updates, but not in a familiar format like an “app store”. The twist is that the Facebook App Center will recommend apps, based on your unique profile, and it should also help surface the overall most popular apps and apps used by your friends.

As it was leaked earlier today, the App Center is also available to iOS and Android phones in addition to facebook.com. Whether it is on the web or on mobile, the App Center makes it easier to preview an app before installing/using it, which is handy. At the moment, this is rolling out in to end-users in the USA with about 600 (hand-picked) apps, but the worldwide release should happen “in the coming weeks” says Facebook.
