Here is yet another shooter from Canon that delivers a long zoom capability that has been crammed into a compact camera body – all without breaking the proverbial bank account, of course. Known as the Canon PowerShot SX170 IS, this particular digital camera will sport a 16x optical zoom with 28mm wide-angle lens and Optical Image Stabilization so that one is capable of capturing clear, vivid images regardless of whether a particular subject happens to be up close or far away. Other than that, it comes with High-Speed AF and an Intelligent IS system which delivers smooth video and sharp images through half a dozen stabilization modes.

Apart from that, the SX170 IS will be powered by a DIGIC 4 Image Processor and a 16.0-megapixel sensor, in addition to capturing 720p HD video. You can also shoot still and video images, while view the results of both through an HDTV via an HDMI connector. Not only that, the implementation of Smart AUTO technology will see the PowerShot SX170 IS select the optimal settings automatically from 32 predefined shooting situations, letting you end up with the best looking images at all times, at least as far as the algorithm allows. The Canon PowerShot SX170 IS will retail for $179.99 when it hits the retail markets this September. [Press Release]
