iPhone 5S Rumored To Sport A7 Chip, 31% Faster Than The A6

iphone-5-review-04-640x426Apple is rumored to announce the iPhone 5S later this year, possibly during a rumored 10th of September event which could see the announcement of the low-cost iPhone 5C as well. While the hardware specs of the iPhone 5S remain a mystery since nothing official has been announced, we have heard it could sport a fingerprint scanner under its sapphire-covered home button, along with the possibility of an A7 processor. Well according to a recent tweet by Clayton Morris, not only has the A7 chip for the iPhone 5S been “confirmed”, but apparently his sources have told him that it will be running about 31% faster than the A6 on the iPhone 5.

To top it off, the sources of 9to5Mac have also informed them that Apple has been testing 64-bit A7 chips on iPhone 5S prototypes as well. It is not clear if these 64-bit A7 chips will be making it to the final product, but if it does, iPhone 5S owners could be in for a treat. Apparently with these 64-bit A7 chips, the graphical effects on the phone, especially with iOS 7, will appear to be much smoother compared to other iOS devices. The 64-bit processor has also been reported on by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in the past, who believes that the move to 64-bit could happen in the near future and could either debut with the A7 or the A8, which presumably would arrive on iOS devices in 2014.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully Apple’s 10th of September event will pan out and we will be able to get our hands on official details soon!
