horizonHorizon is a spanking new video-recording app from the folks over at Evil Window Dog that will allow you to record all of your videos in horizontal mode at all times – without taking into consideration just how you hold your smartphone. It might not sound like much at all to you, but sometimes, it could mean the difference between something that is well shot, or poorly composed. After all, I am quite sure that some of us know of those spur-of-the-moment shots where you begin to record in the wrong orientation.

Just how is all of that made possible? Well, Horizon relies on an extremely neat trick to get the job done. The app itself comes with a rectangular indicator which remains in the center of the screen always, where within this viewport, the Horizon app will perform its video capture. Regardless of how you attempt to rotate the device, the box will always remain at the center of the display. Should you begin to shoot in portrait mode, all that you capture will be horizontal content within the viewport.

The viewport box will continue to tilt as you rotate your handset, which makes you avoid rotating as you record. Horizon can be purchased for $0.99 from the App Store, where this universal app supports the iPhone 4s or newer, the fifth generation iPod touch, the iPad 2 or newer and iPad mini or newer.
