Xbox Music Might Soon Get A Cloud Locker

Microsoft isn’t new to cloud technologies. It already runs a popular cloud storage service that used to be called SkyDrive but was only recently rebranded as OneDrive. Apart from that the company already has a cloud based music streaming service called Xbox Music. If a new report is to be believed the company might be looking to merge the two in a way. It appears that Microsoft may soon allow Xbox Music users to upload their own music to a cloud locker which can then be accessed from anywhere.

LiveSino found references to the cloud locker service in source code files from OneDrive’s website. The references clearly mention a separate OneDrive Music folder which serves as a locker for any and all music files uploaded to it.

Once files are uploaded users will be able to play them via Xbox Music from any of their devices. Apparently it will also be possible to add files to the locker through the OneDrive app for desktop computers.

Even though Xbox Music has a scan-and-match feature for music that users might already have this new service will bring it in line with similar services from Google and Amazon. This allows users to store and stream music even if its not available in the Xbox Music store.

Over the past few months the company has taken quite a few steps to make the service better, such as adding offline support to iOS and Android apps as well as new features to the Windows apps.
