Mozilla Denies Working On Chromecast Competitor

firefox-os-dongleThings are not always what they seem to be, where we brought you word yesterday that Mozilla’s alleged Chromecast rival has been seen for the very first time, and this particular rumor has been given some more “weight” no thanks to a Mozilla developer and evangelist who suggested over Twitter that this new and upcoming TV dongle that you see above will run on Firefox OS, making it pretty much in the same vein as that of the Google Chromecast.

Mozilla has taken steps to maintain a distance from the alleged dongle, and even issued a denial that this is not a product from Mozilla. According to a spokesperson who mentioned to told Re/code, “This is not a Mozilla project, and we do not make devices. Firefox OS in as open platform freely available for any company to build on without restrictions. This means companies can experiment with different form factors that run Firefox OS.”

If one were to extrapolate things further, this simply means that Mozilla is not the hardware manufacturer of the device, but this does not mean that there is no Mozilla-endorsed third party out there who has worked in such a product? After all, part of the appeal of an upcoming device lies in its potential specifications that continues to undergo speculation before its official release.
