Philips Shows Off Hue iOS 8 Widget

philips widgetOne of the things that Apple introduced in iOS 8 that iOS users have been longing for was widgets. Unfortunately this does not mean that there will be widgets in your home screen, instead, these widgets will only be available via the notification center which we guess is good/bad depending on how you look at it.

Good in the sense that it keeps your home screen clear and clear, but bad because it’s one extra step you’d have to take in order to access them. That being said, the folks at Philips have recently tweeted a photo of what appears to be a screenshot of what the widget for their Hue app on the iPhone will look like. “This is a concept prototype to show the use of extensions to provide access to hue from the notification centre!”

As Philips notes, this is only a concept prototype, so there is a good chance that the final version of the widget will look very different from what is being shown here. As you can see, the widgets provides the user with quick access to certain features, such as enabling/disabling the lights, as well as choosing from certain presets. For those unfamiliar, the Philips Hue is a “smart” light bulb.

It allows the user to control the bulb via their iOS app, allowing them to turn it on or off, as well as adjusting its brightness and in some cases, allowing for different colors to add different moods. With the widget, we guess controlling the light has become a much more convenient process, but what do you guys think? Is this a good example of how widgets could be used in iOS 8?
