iPhone 6 Allegedly Caught Fire After Being Bent In Accident

iphone-bend-burntI am quite sure that many of us are more or less fed up with the entire BendGate debacle concerning the iPhone 6, as there is a new DyeGate that has emerged as well. Having said that, it looks as though the end of the BendGate issue is not yet in sight, especially after it was alleged that an iPhone 6 was bent, catching fire afterwards, resulting in a second-degree burn to its owner. The iPhone 6 happened to be enclosed in a leather case that could very well have offered a certain degree of protection, but that did not seem to be the case – pun not intended.

Phillip Lechter, owner of the alleged iPhone 6 that bent and subsequently caught fire, claimed that he was riding a pedicab when the vehicle was involved in an accident. The force of the accident sent Lechter against the wall of the cabin in which he was riding in, resulting in the handset being bent badly, and catching fire afterwards. It is truly an alarming, if not unique situation for Apple.

Apparently, the battery experienced a puncture after being bent, and the natural consequence of that was a fire. Of course, it must be said that just about no other handset could have resisted such an impact, but if the iPhone 6 was not vulnerable to such bending, could this have been avoided?
