apple logoA few days ago, we reported that a new malware for iOS had been discovered that has been known as the “Masque Attack”. For those who are hearing about this for the first time, the Masque Attack is named such because of its ability to disguise itself as an actual app and replace current apps on a user’s iOS device.

From there when the user runs the app, like a banking app for example, it will then steal the user’s information without them knowing. Like we said then, it does come across as a more advanced version of phishing attacks. That being said, Apple has since responded to the vulnerability, claiming that to their knowledge so far, no customers have been affected by it.

Speaking to iMore, Apple’s statement reads, “We’re not aware of any customers that have actually been affected by this attack. We encourage customers to only download from trusted sources like the App Store and to pay attention to any warnings as they download apps. Enterprise users installing custom apps should install apps from their company’s secure website.”

To be fair we haven’t heard of any such attacks either and unless you tend to frequently download apps from third-party sources rather than the iTunes App Store, you should be safe. It should also be noted that you’d have to go out of your way and ignore all of Apple’s safeguards for the attack to truly work, so for now you guys should be good.
