Blizzard has three major franchises under its belt – Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft, with Warcraft probably being its biggest as it has spawned RTS games, MMORPGs in the form of World of Warcraft, and even card-based games such as Hearthstone. That being said, it looks like we can finally add yet another franchise to Blizzard’s list as they have officially announced Overwatch.

If the name sounds familiar, it is because it is one of the trademarks Blizzard had registered for not too long ago. According to Blizzard, Overwatch will be a team based multiplayer shooter which sounds a lot like most multiplayer shooters out there, although given its Pixar-like/cartoony graphics that Blizzard is known for, it feels a lot like Team Fortress 2 which might not necessarily be a bad thing.

There will be several different classes to choose from and according to Blizzard’s description of the game, “Harnessing the power of their hero of choice, players will join forces in teams of six and battle each other across a range of futuristic global locations, from the hologram-lit streets of London to a bazaar in the shadows of a high-tech Egyptian pyramid.”

The choice of location also makes it feel like Overwatch could have elements Blizzard’s cancelled Titan game in it. In any case Blizzard announced that the beta of the game will be coming out next year, and for those who are interested in taking it for a spin, head on over to the Overwatch page for the details. In the meantime you can check out the launch cinematic and gameplay videos above.
