Late last month Samsung confirmed that its 3G-capable smartwatch will be launching very soon in the U.S. The date officially announced by Samsung was November 7th and that’s precisely when this smartwatch was launched. Samsung Gear S is now available for purchase in the country through all of the four major carriers which includes Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

This Tizen-based smartwatch will also be available for purchase through Samsung’s store-within-a-store that can be found at various Best Buy retail locations across the U.S. While Samsung didn’t talk about pricing in its announcement two of its carrier partners have come forward and confirmed how much they will be charging for Gear S.

On AT&T the Samsung Gear S can be purchased for $199.99 with a two year contract or $299.99 without a contract. Sprint is offering the smartwatch without any upfront payment but on its equipment installment plan the Gear S will cost customers $16 for 24 months. Verizon and T-Mobile are expected to confirm their pricing for this smartwatch soon.

Just to jog your memory allow me to list the specifications again. Gear S has a 1GHz dualcore processor with 512MB RAM, 4GB onboard storage, a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display, 300mAh battery, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, IP67-certification for water and dust resistance as well as UV sensor and heart rate monitor.

Without a doubt the defining feature of this smartwatch is its standalone 3G capability which eliminates the need to hook it up to a smartphone in order to use mobile data on the go.
