xiaomiFor those living in the US, Black Friday is probably one of the largest shopping days in the year in the face of the massive discounts that retailers are providing to customers. Well over in China, it’s called Singles’ Day and it takes places on the 11th of November and is also considered to be China’s largest online shopping day.

That being said, it seems that Xiaomi has managed to clock record sales over in China and the day isn’t over yet. According to reports, Xiaomi managed to clock and set its own sales record today by pulling in more than $163 million in revenue, and all of this was achieved by midday, so safe to say that number will probably end up climbing before the end of the day.

Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s VP of International, revealed additional information, such as how the company managed to rack up $16 million in the first five minutes of their sale going live. He also mentioned how the company beat their record last year within four hours, which we have to admit is mighty impressive.

Additional figures reveal that 720,000 smartphones were sold by midday, 250,000 of which was the company’s Mi4 handset, 460,000 of its Redmi, and Xiaomi also claims to have sold around 25,000 Mi TVs as well. Like we said Singles’ Day in China is where a lot of money is spent. Just yesterday we reported that a man in China spent two years’ worth of pay to buy 99 iPhones to propose to the girl of his dreams, only to have her turn him down.
