iOS 8.3 Will Let You Download Free Apps Without A Password

ios83beta3passwordsettingsWhen purchasing an app on iTunes, you are required to enter your password to your Apple ID to verify who you are. This makes sense if you’re purchasing a paid app or making in-app purchases that will result in actual money being charged to you. However if you’re download a free app or a freemium app, does it really matter?

For some users we suppose the security is important, but if you’d rather not deal with the hassle everytime you download a free app, you’re in luck as it has been discovered in the latest iOS 8.3 beta that free downloads may no longer require the user to enter their password. This was discovered in the iTunes & App Store under “Password Settings”.

From there users can choose to disable password requests for free app downloads. The Password Settings menu also lists the “Always Require” and “Require After 15 Minutes” options which were previously located in the Restrictions section of the Settings app. However as it stands, it seems that the new password settings aren’t functional as tapping them returns the error message, “Cannot connect to the iTunes Store” so perhaps it will be enabled in later betas or upon the final release.

Some new additions Apple made include allowing Siri to make speakerphone calls which we covered in an earlier report. The beta of iOS 8.3 is actually a public one so if you’re interested in taking it for a spin, you should be able to.
